Generator
Tank Installation
|
|
A
ballpark price for a generator tank installation is from
$4,000 and up. There are a number of factors required
to determine the actual cost.
Some
of these factors are:
|
| |
*Tank
(Size of the tank from 120 - 1000 gallons)
*Concrete slab (if required)
*Excavation (underground tank)
*Anodes (underground tank)
*Pipeline and trenching
*Distance of gas piping needed for installation
*Regulator package
*Final hookup including flex connector
*Permits
*Gas |
Use the prep sheet below to gather the information needed
to provide you an estimate for your propane tank installation. |
|
|
|
| |
| 1.
What size generator do you need? |
| |
Before
buying a generator, determine the amount of power that your
home or business requires.
|
| |
The more appliances powered by gas will reduce the required
size of the generator
Switching these three appliances from electric to gas
will reduce the generator size by 18,500 Watts
|
| |
|
Average electric water heater = 5,000 Watts
Average electric stove = 8,500 Watts
Average electric clothes dryer = 5,000 Watts |
Have an electrician check your appliances and power requirements
to establish the size of the generator for you to purchase. |

| 2.
What size tank do you need? |
| |
The
rate of consumption of propane will help determine what
size tank you will need.
|
| |
|
Cubic foot of propane = 2,500 BTU
36.6 Cubic feet of propane = 1 gallon |
| |
If a generator uses 36.6 Cubic feet of propane per hour that
is one gallon of propane gas |
|
Generators the size of _______ uses _______ gallons an hour.
Gallons per hour times 24 hours equals ________ gallons
per day
_______ gallons per _______ days equals a tank capacity
of at least _______ gallons
|
|
(Sungas
recommends at least a 7 day supply of gas in the tank)

| 3.
Where are you going to put the tank and generator? |
| |
By
law, the location of any propane tanks must be at least
10 feet away from generators, air conditioners or any electric
motors. The generator manufacturers also have requirements
on the location of their equipment.

New zoning codes that regulate where generators and fuel tanks
can be located are being updated all the time. Check the zoning
